Retractable Gate
Retractable Gate

Retractable Gate

Engineered for extra-wide entrances where traditional sliding, cantilever, or swing gates cannot provide a practical solution. The accordion-style retractable structure allows linked panels to extend across large entrances and compress into a compact stack when opened. Available for spans up to 40m, with 6063-T5 aluminum alloy or 304 stainless steel options to suit different environments. Ideal for factories, logistics centers, campuses, stadiums, and large facilities.
  • Ultra-wide span design for large-scale access requirements
  • High-strength panel structure for stable long-term operation
  • Smooth retracting movement with reliable track system
  • Flexible control options for manual and automatic operation
  • Custom solutions for industrial, commercial, and public projects

Up to 40 meters, retracts into under 2 meters of side space

The compression ratio is the reason this gate type exists. Panel count scales with the span; the retracted stack height stays manageable regardless of how wide the gate is extended. No other gate format handles a 30- or 40-meter opening from a 2-meter footprint.

Aluminum or stainless steel — both available across the full size range

The material choice drives different things: aluminum for weight and corrosion resistance, stainless for surface hardness and chemical tolerance. More on this below.

Extended lengths from 2 m to 40 m; heights from 1.2 m to 2.2 m

Standard production covers most industrial and commercial opening dimensions. Custom configurations are available on engineering review for spans or heights outside that range.

Electric motor with soft-start/stop, manual release

24V DC or 220V/110V AC drive, rack-and-pinion or chain system. Soft-start and soft-stop reduce the mechanical shock load on accordion joints at end of travel — relevant for long-service-life expectations on high-cycle sites. Manual release is standard for power-failure operation.

Control interfaces: RF remote, RFID, keypad, loop detector, BMS

RF handsets to 50 meters, card reader access, PIN keypad, inductive loop for automated vehicle sensing, dry contact and RS485 outputs for building management integration. Specified at order; the gate hardware accommodates all of them.

No foundation, no excavation, installs in hours

The gate arrives on its caster system, pre-assembled. Fixed anchor at one side of the opening, motor and control wiring, then magnets or rails, done. An experienced two-person crew typically commissions a 10 to 20 meter span in four to six hours.

Aluminum or Stainless Steel — How to Choose

This is a question that comes up on almost every retractable gate inquiry, and the answer usually isn’t as complicated as it sounds once you know what drives it.

Aluminum is the right call for the majority of industrial and commercial sites. The weight difference across 20 or 30 accordion panels is significant — aluminum runs roughly 40 percent lighter than stainless at the same cross-section. On a large retractable gate, lighter panels mean the casters are carrying less load on every cycle, the motor is working within a more comfortable range of its rated capacity, and the accordion hinge pins are under less stress each time the gate extends or compresses. Those are not marginal differences when you’re running a site entrance that cycles dozens of times a day. The surface doesn’t rust; the powder coat handles UV and abrasion in standard outdoor environments.

Stainless steel comes up when the environment is genuinely aggressive in ways that aluminum powder coat doesn’t handle well. Food processing facilities where the gate gets hosed down with industrial cleaning agents. Chemical plants where liquid splash hits the frame surface. Coastal logistics hubs where the salt air concentration is high enough that even powder-coated aluminum shows surface degradation over time. Public infrastructure where the specification requires a polished or brushed metal finish that can’t be replicated with paint. In those situations, the surface hardness of 304 stainless and its resistance to chemical attack justify the weight and cost premium.

Where it gets muddled is when stainless is specified purely because it sounds more industrial or more durable, without a clear reason from the site conditions. If the gate is going into a dry inland warehouse with no chemical exposure, aluminum does the same job at lower weight, lower motor load, and lower cost. The right answer depends on what the gate is actually being exposed to — not on which material sounds heavier-duty.

Electric Drive and Access Control

The gate can be pushed manually, but for commercial and industrial applications, the motorized configuration is almost always what gets installed. The manual option stays available for sites with intermittent use or no reliable power supply.

The motor mounts to the leading post — the mobile end of the gate that carries the lock. Drive is through rack-and-pinion or chain depending on the configuration. Soft-start prevents the accordion structure from lurching when the motor engages; soft-stop prevents it from slamming into the end stop at full retraction. Over thousands of cycles, those two features are what keep the hinge pin connections from loosening ahead of schedule.

On the control side, the usual industrial access scenarios are all covered. RF remote handsets for security personnel or maintenance staff moving around the site. RFID card or fob readers for driver access without leaving the cab. PIN keypad for personnel on foot where card systems aren’t practical. Inductive loop detectors in the approach surface for fully automated vehicle sensing — the gate opens when a vehicle arrives, closes after it clears. For sites running a building management system, RS485 or dry contact outputs connect the gate controller to site-wide scheduling and event logging.Battery backup is an available option for sites where a power cut during active security hours is an operational problem rather than just an inconvenience. Worth specifying upfront rather than retrofitting later.

Installation and Deployment

The retractable gate is the gate type with the shortest civil works requirement. There is no foundation post to cast, no overhead beam to level and anchor, no ground channel to cut across the driveway surface, magnets or rails installed. The gate ships pre-assembled on its caster system, in accordion form, ready to position at the opening.

What the installation actually involves: fixing the anchor post to the wall or structural column on the fixed side of the opening, running the motor and control wiring to the drive unit and access control devices, and commissioning the motor limits and control programming, magnets or rails installation. On a level concrete surface, two people who have done this before typically finish a 10- to 20-meter span in four to six hours. That’s installation and commissioning combined — not installation one day, commissioning another.

Longer spans and uneven ground conditions change the calculation. For spans above 20 meters or sites with surface variation that the standard caster hardware doesn’t accommodate, JHR supplies leveling hardware with the caster assemblies and provides installation drawings based on customer-supplied ground plans. Remote engineering support is available throughout — not as a paid add-on, but as part of the order process.Extended length, gate height, material preference, drive system, and site location are the inputs needed to generate a specification and quote. Turnaround is one working day from inquiry.

Aluminum Cantilever Driveway Gate2

Aluminum Cantilever Driveway Gate

There's a reason more installers and property owners are moving away from tracked gates — and it's not just about the look. Ground rails collect debris, freeze over in cold climates, and eventually warp the alignment of the gate itself. The JHR Aluminum Cantilever Sliding Gate was built around a different idea: remove the track entirely, and most of the long-term problems disappear with it. The frame is structural-grade aluminum alloy throughout — not a steel core with an aluminum skin, but solid alloy from post to panel. Powder-coated finish goes on over that, and it doesn't peel, blister, or need refreshing the way painted steel does. In coastal areas or high-humidity environments, that distinction matters more than most spec sheets let on. It opens and closes on a cantilever mechanism: a set of roller carriages mounted to fixed posts carry the gate's weight entirely above ground. No ground contact means no seasonal heaving, no accumulated grit jamming the movement, and no trip hazard across the driveway. The gate itself moves quietly enough that most people don't register it until it's already open. Available in manual push or motorized configurations. Custom-built to your opening dimensions. Fifteen years from installation, it should still operate the same way it did on day one.

Motorized Louvered Aluminum Pergola

Motorized Louvered Aluminum Pergola

Every fixed outdoor structure makes a permanent decision about light and airflow. A solid roof solves the rain problem and the sun problem, but it also solves the fresh-air problem and the open-sky problem — permanently, in all weather. An open lattice pergola provides partial shade at certain sun angles and zero rain protection. Neither one adapts to what the space actually needs at a given moment. The JHR Motorized Louvered Aluminum Pergola has a roof that rotates. The blades sit on pivot axes driven by a quiet tubular motor — 0 degrees puts the blades edge-on to the sky for full light and maximum ventilation; 135 degrees overlaps the blades and the roof is watertight, with rain draining to integrated gutter channels in the perimeter beams. Any position between those two handles a different combination of shade, light, and airflow. The adjustment takes a few seconds from a wall switch, a remote handset, or a smartphone app. The entire structure is 6063-T5 aluminum alloy — columns, beams, and louver blades — powder-coated in any RAL color. Column spacing, roof span, and height are specified per project. Accessories include integrated LED lighting, motorized side screens, rain sensors for automatic louver closure, and smart home integration through Tuya, Alexa, and Google Home. Standard modular widths from 3.0 m to 8.0 m; depths from 2.5 m to 6.0 m; column heights from 2.4 m to 3.5 m.
